Split Crest

The surgeons at TIRANA DENTAL HOSPITAL offer a wide selection of different manufacturers and products for bone expansion. We only use certified products of high quality and proven performance.
Artificial bone in the form of particles, paste and pellets of different sizes, structures or characteristics, is effective for filling (increasing) defects of various shapes and sizes.
However, if the patient’s bone cells are missing, which would intervene with the augmentation, the bone must be taken from a different source and used (in the form of a block, ring, cell of support membranes) to rebuild the missing bone structure.

What is bone expansion?

Bone expansion is a surgical technique used to increase the mandibular or maxillary bone in cases where they are too thin, for it to allow the insertion of dental implants.
The thinned bone is defined as a bladed bone crest.

In which cases is it advisable to undergo the surgery?

The lack of thickness would prevent the correct positioning of the implant because even the smallest diameter of the implants available on the market would not fit within the bone cortices.
One of the most suitable regeneration techniques for solving such cases, especially in the maxillary position, is undoubtedly the Split Crest. The Split Crest Technique involves the separation of the two bony fronts which are then enlarged and “filled” with regenerative material.

What are the advantages of bone expansion?

  • High success rates.
  • The bone is almost entirely created as the result of the clot that forms between the two enlarged parts; therefore it is structurally, a high quality autologous bone.
  • The positioning of the implant takes place at the same time as the regeneration, so only one intervention is required.
  • Obtaining crucial bone thicknesses.
The only disadvantage of the technique is that, unlike other surgical techniques, it requires a high operating sensitivity and great surgical experience.

How much does the intervention cost in Albania?

To define the price, it is necessary to make an on-site evaluation of the problem. This is a delicate operation and not always easy to evaluate the economic costs prior.
To facilitate your needs, we offer the possibility of a video call first, which would be very helpful for our doctors to evaluate the seriousness of the case and estimate the possible costs to be incurred.
