Mentoplasty

The mentoplasty is the surgical procedure used to reshape the shape of the chin.
Often, this operation is also associated with the modification of the malar area (the cheekbones), with which the chin joins thanks to the mandible, thus giving the typical connotation of the subject’s face.
Mentoplasty, like any other plastic surgery operation, can be carried out either for functional reasons, i.e. for chin reconstructions following accidents or genetic malformations, or for purely aesthetic reasons (aesthetic mentoplasty).
In the latter case, the mentoplasty operation aims to modify the shape of the chin to give the face a more harmonious appearance, in line with the patient’s psychological predisposition.

Why is aesthetic mentoplasty performed?

For various reasons, but which essentially all lead to a single point: giving the patient’s face a more harmonious shape.
Modifying the structure of the chin and its specific shape is, at times, a necessary operation to give the face a better aesthetic relationship: the malar area and that of the chin contain a fundamental aesthetic element of the human face, namely the mouth, which must therefore be adequately valued.
A more strong-willed chin or a more accentuated one can significantly distort the total aesthetic complex of a face: to realize this, it is sufficient to stand in profile and analyze the shadow that is projected by our face.
You immediately realize that three particular points determine the overall shape of the profile: the forehead, the nose and, precisely, the chin.
Giving the right harmony to these three points, re-establishing the appropriate proportions, is often a desire of many patients who turn to aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery.
