The fixed appliance consists of two parts that transmit the forces necessary for individual movements: one metal (brackets or "plates") and one active (orthodontic arch and auxiliary wires). The metal arch follows the shape of the dental arch, and passes into the brackets, which are glued to the outer surface of the individual teeth, through a hole called a slot. This procedure is known as bonding.
